Tunis, 2 August 2017:
The secretary general of the Arab Youth Union, Mustafa Gadara, was abducted in Tripoli today. The first Libyan to head the normally Damascus-based organisation, he was taken from his room in a downtown hotel where he was staying by three armed men.
The various Tripoli militias, when contacted, reportedly said that they had had nothing to do with the kidnapping. This has led to suspicions that common criminals were involved, intent on a ransom. So far, though, there has been no communication from the kidnappers.
Gadara has been operating out of Tunis recently but occasionally returns to his native Tripoli for meetings.
