Tripoli, 20 July 2017:
The Presidency Council (PC) is complicit in allowing murderers who have slain its opponents to escape justice, controversial Tripoli grand mufti Sadiq Al-Ghariani has claimed.
He insisted there is official indifference to the assassination of army and security officers, revolutionaries and Islamic scholars who were opposed to the Serraj government. He claimed that last year’s murder of his associate Sheikh Nadir Al-Omrani was part of it.
Ghariani offered no evidence for the allegations which he made during his weekly broadcast on his own Tanasuh TV.
He accused the interior ministry and security departments of failing to protect Libya because of their ineptitude. Ghariani said he had asked the ministry to provide in-depth reports to Libyans on crimes, something he said they had not done. Their silence, he said, was proof of their complicity in the campaign.
Libya was, he added, in a state of “tyranny” in “the hands of darkness” and those “who seek to spread injustice and tyranny”. It had strayed from true religion which was why it was in the current crisis. The former General National Congress, in contrast, been successful in issuing Islamic laws, he added. It was, he said, the most important achievement of the revolution.
