Tunis, 9 June 2017:
Prince Mohammed El Senussi, the son of the late Crown Prince Hassan Al-Rida El Senussi, has scorned allegations on some social media and press outlets that he is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB). He dismissed them as “completely false”.
The attempt to link Prince Mohammed came just days after he called on the international community not to lift the arms embargo on Libya or the freeze on LIA assets. He said that such a move as would be “irresponsible madness”. In his statement today, he again repeated the call to make no change on the embargo and the assets freeze. The county’s wealth had to be preserved until it had an stable, elected and accepted government which represented all Libyans, he said.
Ridiculing the idea the Prince Mohamed was a part of the MB, his cousin Prince Idris Senussi said that it was “just not possible for a Senussi to be a member”. The allegations were part of a deliberate attempt to undermine the Senussis at the very time support for them among Libyans was growing, he added.
“There are those who do not want to see legitimacy and stability in Libya,” he stated.
Sympathy towards the former ruling family is generally seen to be on the rise as public dissatisfaction and disillusion with the current leaders throughout the country grows.
