Tunis, 8 June 2017:
Khalifa Hafter, as head of Libyan National Army, has appointed the former interior minister, General Mohamed Al-Madani Al-Fakhri as head of Military Investment and Public Works Authority.
The post is a new one. Fakhri will be responsible for the development of armed forces’ projects, such as new bases. Also appointed to the authority as members of its board of directors are Brigadier Abdul Karim Mohamed Ahmed and Colonel Abdulkarim Faraj Raheel Massoud. An executive director of the new authority is still to be chosen.
Fakhri, who is known to be close to Field Marshal Hafter was sacked by interim prime minister Abdallah Al-Thinni last October after a major row. Despite attempts by both HoR President Ageela Saleh and the field marshal to get Thinni to reinstate him, he refused, allegedly threatening to resign.
