Tunis, 18 May 2017:
A three-day gathering of major Libyan figures started yesterday in Geneva the aim being to thrash out new ideas on potential dialogue.
Organised by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva (HD), the deliberately low-key affair, entitled “Crisis Containment and Stability Support in Libya”, is being attended by a wide cross-section of Liya stakeholders.
They include former Presidency Council member Musa Koni, controversial political figure and head of the Nation Party Abdulhakim Belhaj, Justice and Construction Party chairman Mohamed Sawan, former Qaddafi foreign minister and UN ambassador Abdulrahman Shalgam, former NTC deputy leader Abdulkhafid Ghoga, Qaddafi-era housing and environment head Htewish Faraj Htewish and businessman Husni Bey. Also present are House of Representatives (HoR) members Mohamed Idris Magharbi (head of the HoR’s foreign affairs committee), Jalal Al-Shweidi (Benghazi) and Saida Al-Yacoubi (Gharyan) plus representatives of the Tebu and Amazigh communities.
Media are not present and all discussions are supposed to be private.
The first Libya dialogue meeting organised by HD took place last October.
