Tripoli, 9 April, 2017:

Major-General Abdul Razzaq Al-Nazhuri has dismissed the mayor of Marj and appointed another military officer to run it. Lieutenant-Colonel Wahbi Anwar Al-Raikh has been chosen to administer the town. Nazhuri also appointed Abdulwahab Al-Aish has his deputy.

The move comes the same day that Ahmed Al-Oraibi resigned as mayor of Benghazi. He was the first man appointed by Nuzhuri to head a municipality, having sacked the previous democratically-elected mayor. He has now replaced well over a dozen mayors and councils in the east of the country, most recently the mayor of Marada.

Marj is still one of the main bases for the Libyan National Army and Field Marshal Khalifa Hafter.
