Tunis, 22 March 2017:
The head of the State Council, Abdulrahman Sewehli, had called on Italy, along with the European Union, the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court, to take action against war crimes allegedly committed in Benghazi by the Libya National Army led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
He made the call while in Italy on a three-day visit at the invitation of the head of the Italian Senate, Pietro Grasso. During the visit, Sewehli, accompanied by a large delegation from the State Council, also met with the president of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Laura Boldrini as well as the heads of both chambers’ foreign affairs committees.
In addition to the current Libya political crisis, other areas discussed with the Italians included “practical steps” to activate Libyan-Italian partnerships and ensure the return of Italian companies to complete suspended projects.
