Tunis, 22 March 2017:
The town of Marada, in the Sirte Basin oil fields, has become the latest to have its elected municipal council and mayor replaced by an appointee. Major General Abdul Razzak Al-Nazhuri, the Libyan National Army’s chief of general staff and military commander from Ben Jawad to Derna, has appointed Colonel Omar Ambarak Al-Fagih as the municipality’s acting mayor.
Well over a dozen municipalities have now had their municipal councils replaced with military men by Nazhuri.
Under the latest move, all local entities and municipal bodies are ordered to take their instructions from Colonel Fagih as acting mayor.
