Benghazi, 16 February 2017:
Tobruk has cancelled celebrations marking the sixth anniversary of the 2011 revolution. There could be no such festivities until terrorism was eradicated across Libya and stability restored, a municipality spokesman said.
The announcement follows the cancellation of celebrations in Beida although the reason there was security fears.
The House of Representatives (HoR) has, however, congratulated Libyans on the anniversary, saying it served as a reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom.
The HoR said it understood the responsibilities bestowed on it and would maintain the unity of Libya and further the establishment of a democratic state.
It also insisted it understood the suffering many Libyans faced and would continue to support the development of a united military as it sought to rid the country of terrorism.
