Tunis, 29 January 2017:
The few remaining Americans in Tripoli say they have no intention of leaving the country despite fresh US State Department travel advice telling on Friday telling them to do so.
The updated statement tells US citizens currently in Libya to depart immediately.
Two American nationals in Tripoli told the Libya Herald that they and other American friends intended to remain. “None of the Americans I know have left or are planning to leave,” said one.
The latest statement is seen as part of the new Trump administration’s campaign against states that are seen in Washington as, in one way or another ,linked to Islamic militancy. Trump has signed an executive order prohibiting passport holders of Libya, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan and Somalia from entering the US. Washington’s new ban includes those already with American visas and green-cards. Dual nationals of those countries are also banned from using their other nationality to enter the US. The sole exception is those with a US passport.
