Tunis, 13 January 2016:
Moves by members of the House of Representatives (HoR) who support the Libyan Political Agreement to set up their own parliament based in Tripoli have been condemned by the HoR in Tobruk. In statement, it said that the move was illegal and warned public institutions against having any dealings with it.
Yesterday, pro-LNA members took over the tourism ministry headquarters by the port, putting up a notice that it was now the HoR headquarters, based in Tripoli.
It is not clear which members are behind the move. However, is seen as yet another example of Libya’s deepening divisions.
It happened just as the former Libya Dawn regime led by Khalifa Ghwell took over at least four other ministries in the capital, claiming that they were now under his authority.
The tourism ministryt takeover has angered local employees, who are now threatening to go on strike. Such a move, however, is unlikely to have effect since there is no tourism in Libya.
