Tunis, 26 January 2017:
An UNSMIL delegation paid a flying visit to Tobruk yesterday, Wednesday, for talks with House of Representative members opposed to the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA).
Discussions included possible modifications to the LPA, although an UNSMIL source described it more as a “listening exercise” on its part.
While some of the HoR members attending were said to remain resistant to anything to do with the LPA, others “genuinely want to move forward on their own terms” in bringing about peace and reconciliation in Libya, the source said.
As such, the encounter is being seen as a significant development in rebuilding ties between UNSMIL and the HoR.
