The head of the State Council, Abdulrahman Sewehli, has called the police and security services to be fully activated and an end to the current impunity enjoyed by criminals.
For the battle against crime to be won, in particular the kidnapping and extortion, Libyans had unite and work together, to he said.
In a comment seen as directed primarily against controversial grand mufti Sadek Al-Ghariani, he also called on religious leaders to stay out of politics if they wanted the respect of the Libyan public. Everyone had to accept civilian leadership of the country, he said. Religious leaders had a role to play in the battle against crime, but not by interfering in politics.
