Tunis, 27 December 2016:
The local radio station in Gharyan has been prevented from broadcasting for the second day in a row by the militia supposed to protect it, according to the Libyan news agency LANA.
It quoted the station’s director, Mohamed Al-Talib, saying that the militia, which had been based at building housing the radio station for some considerable time, was demanding money. It claimed the station had no right to be there and was preventing staff from entering.
In a separate incident, gunmen closed the road heading north from Gharyan to Gawasim on the way to Aziziya. They were demanding the release of colleagues arrested last week after they set up illegal checkpoints on the road.
