Tripoli, 10 November 2016:
Four foreign ambassadors presented credentials today to Faiez Serraj, the head of the Presidency Council. The ceremony, attended by the Presidency Council’s interim foreign minister, Mohamed Taha Siala, took place in the impressive surroundings of Tripoli Castle.
The ambassadors concerned were Ronald Strum of Austria, David Sproule of Canda, Ahmet Dogan of Turkey and Hassan Al-Harid of Yemen. All have been in post for some considerable time, although they are based outside the country. There was discussion during today’s ceremony as to when their embassies would return to Tripoli. The Yemeni ambassador was reported saying that his embassy would reopen within a week.
This is the first occasion that ambassadors have presented credentials to Serraj, acting in his capacity as heading the council which is considered Libya’s corporate head of state. No ambassadors have presented credentials for more than two years. The last time, ambassadors did so was to the head of the then General National Congress.
