Tripoli, 18 October 2016:

A single command has been agreed between eight Jebel Nafusa military councils, including Zintan which suggests the Zintanis may be distancing themselves from their links with the east.

At a meeting in Ghariyan today the heads of the military councils of Gharyan, Jadu, Kikla, Yefren, Rujban, Al-Shgega and Al-Rahibat agreed to unite under the joint command of Brigadiers General Alramah Suwaisi and Mohamed Shataiba.

Until now Zintan has generally ploughed a separate path in loose alliance with the Libyan National Army. This attachment to a western regional military group opens the possibility that Zintan’s alliance with General Khalifa Hafter is unravelling.
