Tunis, 28 September 2016:
Faiez Serraj, the head of the Presidency Council, and his team have flown from Paris to Abu Dhabi for talks with senior UAE officials. They arrived on Wednesday evening and met Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy commander of the UAE’s armed forces.
According to UAE new agency WAM, Serraj briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the latest political, security and economic developments in Libya, on efforts to achieve national reconciliation and the views of the international community.
For his part, the Abu Dhabi crown prince assured Serraj of the UAE’s support for the Presidency Council.
The UAE has, however, been seen as a major backer of Khalifa Hafter and the Libyan National Army in the east. They reject the Presidency Council and Serraj.
