In the Libyan National Army’s latest move to take control of Libyan institutions, Major-General Abdul Razzak Al-Nazhuri, the right-hand man of Khalifa Hafter who was made governor of eastern Libya by the president of the House of Representatives, has appointed a five-man committee to take over Libya Airlines.
Headed by Mahmoud Barasi as CEO and four others (named as Isa Hussein Hamed, Abdelrazzak Bakar, Ayad Al-Abbar and Hussein Abdelrazzak), the new administration will report to Nazhuri.
The move is supposed to be temporary. The new committee based in Benghazi is to provide Nazhuri with a full report on the financial and technical workings of the airline at the end of four months.
Libyan Airlines was already split between a Tripoli administration and one in Benghazi but the two were collaborating. It is not yet clear whether how this latest development will affect the workings of the company. The Tripoli administration is most unlikely to accept orders from the LNA committee but is expected to try and work with it out of necessity.
