Tunis, 9 September 2016:
Musa Koni, one of the five deputy leaders of the Presidency Council has a taken over its chairmanship for a week, as of yesterday, Thursday.
No reasons have been given but the move allows the PC leader Faiez Serraj to spend the Eid holiday with his family.
In his first executive order, in a response to yesterday’s car bombs which he said demonstrated the terrorists’ increasing desperation, Koni tweeted that he had sent “immediate instructions”, to Arif Khojja, the acting interior minister in the PC’s government, to step up security in the capital. The government ministries and the city’s hospitals and markets will in future need increased protection both in terms of guards and equipment, he is quoted as saying.
He has also called on Italy and Germany to speed up issuing visas for the wounded in the fight against the so-called Islamic state to go and be treated in the two countries.
