Tobruk/Benghazi, 2 September 2016:
A group of bomb makers planning a suicide attack against Labraq airport near Beida are reported to have been killed when the explosives they were preparing went off unexpectedly early this morning.
According to Libyan National Army spokesman Colonel Ahmed Mismari, three bomb makers, all Libyans, died in the incident which took place at a farm at Al-Qaiqab, some 10 kilometres south east of Labraq. He said they were preparing suicide belts at the time. As a result of the explosion, he added, others aware of the planned attack, had been arrested.
A source in Derna, however, says that five Libyans and seven Egyptians died in the explosion. According to the source, the Libyans were all members of Derna Mujahideen. They and the Egyptians, he said, were plotting a double suicide attack at the military section of Labraq airport where, he alleged, Egyptian pilots are operating.
The source added that two Libyans had been arrested following the explosion.
