Benghazi, 20 September 2016:
A military helicopter crashed early this morning some 90 kilometres west of Tobruk, reportedly killing Brigadier General Idris Younis, the military adviser to President of the House of Representatives Ageela Saleh. Four other people travelling with him, three senior officers and his son Ahmed Idris, are also said to have been killed as were the three crew.
The helicopter was travelling from Tobruk to Ras Lanuf.
There is no suggestion at present that the helicopter was shot down. According to Colonel Ahmed Mismari, the spokesman for the Libyan National Army, the incident was the result of a technical failure.
An investigation has been launched.
