Benghazi, 28 September 2016:
Cyrenaica military governor Major-General Abdul Raazaq Al-Nazhuri has replaced yet another mayor, this time for the Sidra municipality. It is his sixth municipal sacking. In the past seven weeks he has appointed new mayors for Benghazi, Kufra, Ajdabiya, Al-Abyar and Shihat.
The new mayor is Talib Sulaiman.
Meanwhile, in something of a rebuff to Nazhuri, the municipal council in Soloug as well as elders and civil society activists in the town have rejected calls from local tribal leaders for the mayor there to be removed and a military man appointed in his place. While pledging their support for the House of Representatives, Khalifa Hafter and the Libyan National Army, they nonetheless said there were no problems in Soloug and no divisions within the existing council
A couple of days ago, local tribal leaders in Soloug meet Nazhuri and the man he appointed as mayor of Benghazi, Ahmed Al-Oraibi, and called on him to sack the council and appoint a military mayor.
