Tripoli, 20 August 2016:
A young policeman was shot dead today at Bir Ghanem, some 90 kilometres southwest of Tripoli, on the road from Aziziya to Yefren.
Muftah Salaq was gunned down in a hail of bullets from a speeding car at the checkpoint there, manned by forces supporting the Libyan National Army and the Beida-based government of Abdullah Al-Thinni. From Ajilat, he has recently completely his training as a policeman in Zintan.
It is thought that smugglers who have seen a crackdown on trafficking fuel and other goods into Tunisia, carried out the attack. However, there are alternative suggestions that terrorists linked to the so-called Islamic State, intent on revenge following the capture of one of Tunisia’s most wanted terrorists, may have been responsible.
It was Zintani-based forces who captured Moez Al-Fezzani earlier this week.
