Tripoli, 11 May 2016:

Power cuts have again returned to Tripoli. Most of the city has been affected and . . .[restrict]this evening was in the dark. In the central Tripoli districts of Nufleen, Zawiat Al-Dahmani, Dahra and Mansoura, the power went off at around 11.30 am and was stil off at 8.30 pm.

GECOL has given no reason for the outage, unlike the case in Benghazi where severe power cuts have been announced because of necessary maintenance work to the Benghazi North power station.

In the capital, it is thought that the outage is the result of a hike in power consumption because of rising temperatures and people switching on the air-conditioning. With both sunshine and rain today, it has been hot and sticky in the city. [/restrict]
