Tunis, 30 May 2016:
Tunisia has officially appointed a new consul in Tripoli.
Kacem Guesmi is expected to arrive in Tripoli . . .[restrict]soon, Naoufel Laabidi, head of media department in Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told the Libya Herald.
“There are still some formalities to dealt with before Mr Guesmi’s official appointment and we await the approval from the Government of National Accord,” Laabidi added.
He did not give further information as to when Guesmi would go to Tripoli but said that it would be “at the earliest convenience”.
Tunisia closed its embassy in June 2014 after ten of its diplomats were kidnapped by a Libyan militia believed to be connected to Tunisian militants.
It announced its intention to reopen it at the beginning of last month. [/restrict]
