Tripoli, 30 May 2016:
In a crackdown on foreigners using false passports to enter Malta, a Libyan has been . . .[restrict]sentenced to eight months in jail for arriving in the island republic with a fake British residency permit.
Essam Hamad Elkershine, 28, had arrived from Mitiga with the document, supposedly planning to travel on to Scotland.
However, according to the prosecution which asked for an exemplary jail term to be handed out to deter other fraudsters, he planned to request asylum in Malta.
This was denied by the defendant’s lawyer. However, the judge agreed with the prosecution. [/restrict]
