15 May 2016:
Illegal migration, security and potential trade links were the main subjects under discussion at a meeting today in . . .[restrict]Benghazi between Kufra mayor Muftah Buklhali and the Chadian consul.
The presence in Kufra of a number of Tebus deemed by many Libyans to be Chadians rather than fellow Libyans has been a bone of contention between the Tebu community and other Libyans since the revolution. Allegations that many of the town’s Tebu community were in fact Chadian and not Libyan have been made regulary, especially by its Zwai majority.
Kufra has also become a major stopping point on the various illegal Libyan migration routes towards the Mediterranean and today’s talks further focused on arrangements for deporting migrants back across the border as well as revitalising commercial traffic between Kufra and Chad. [/restrict]
