UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on Faiez Serraj, the head of the Presidency Council, . . .[restrict]to “fast track” Libya’s ratification of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change through what he called “appropriate legal means”. He did so at a meeting between the two on the sidelines of the two-day World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, organised by the UN. He also expressed his concern about the continuing deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Libya, according to a UN statement.
The summit ended today.
In their talks, the UN Secretary-General praised Serraj and the Presidency Council for their work in implementing the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) and stressed the need for him to work with all Libyan stakeholders so as to ensure wider local backing for the agreement. He also stressed the importance of using international support to rebuild government institutions.
The “gradual” return of UNSMIL to Tripoli was another area of discussion. [/restrict]
