Tripoli, 18 February 2016:
A member of the Wirshefana Council of Elders has been kidnapped in west Tripoli. A family . . .[restrict]friend told the Libyan news agency LANA that Mabrouk Karnafa was seized by gunmen on Tuesday in the Hashan are of Janzour and that nothing had been heard of him since.
It is not known if the abduction was political or for ransom. The victim is the father of businessman Muftah Karnafa and in present circumstances where kidnappings for financial gain are rampant, the latter possibility is thought highly likely.
A week ago, Abdulmonem Tantoush, a brother of House of Representative’s member for nearby Maya Omar Ali Tantoush and a lawyer working with the economy minister, was kidnapped. A couple of days later a communications engineer from Kufra was also kidnapped in Tripoli. There is no news of either so far. [/restrict]
