Tripoli, 17 January 2016:

Violent weather has hit Libya in the last 24 hours with snow, hail, heavy rain and . . .[restrict]a sandstorm.  Blizzards struck in the Jebel Nafusa, with snow falling particularly heavily in Ghariyan, Zultan and Tarhuna.

Tripoli experienced extended falls of rain which caused flooding, not least in the Tawerghan refugee camp on the Airport Road, whose inhabitants see their homes inundated every time there are extended rains.

Over and above the rain, the temperature plunged to near zero. In Misrata overnight there were thunder and lightning in a storm which also produced large hailstones as well as sheeting rain. Yet in Tobruk, people had to cope with a sharp sandstorm that blew for several hours turning the sky orange. [/restrict]
