Tunis, 7 January 2016:

The Media Office of the Faiez Serraj-led UN-brokered Government of National Accord (GNA) launched its official logo and Facebook today.

The GNA is born out of the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) signed in the Moroccan city of Skhirat on 17th December and backed by UNSC Resolution 2259 of 23rd December 2015.

A source at the media office informed Libya Herald that ano official twitter account will also be launched ”as soon as possible”.

They also confirmed that no official spokesperson has been appointed yet and that the Media Office will do its best to deal with foreign media.

The quick launch of the official GNA Facebook site even before the government has been fully approved underscores the need to interact and keep on top of media and news in a fast-moving age of communications and social media.

The GNA Media Office had been in contact with members of the media on a personal basis prior to today. However, events such as the Sidra attack and the bomb in Zliten today have forced the GNA to act faster in its media output.

The GNA issued a statement on the IS terror attacks on its new Facebook page. Libya finds itself in the bizarre situation of having three so-called governments releasing statements condemning the latest IS terror attacks. [/restrict]
