Tripoli, 20 January 2016:

It has emerged that a young Tripoli imam was abducted as he headed from from Ishaa . . .[restrict]prayers at his mosque yesterday evening.

Taher Aishi Abu Nawara, the imam and sheikh at Hadba’s Siraj Munir mosque was seized by unknown gunmen. Nawara, 33,  is a member of Libya Board of Islamic Experts and also teaches Islamic Studies at Tripoli University. He is known for is moderate views.

At least four imams have been kidnapped and later released in the capital in the last three years. One of them, Sheikh Tarek Abbas was held for five months until December 2014.
