Tripoli, 8 January 2016:
The mayor of Gharyan, south of Tripoli, was shot at last night in what appears . . .[restrict]to have been an assassination attempt. Yousef Ibderi took a bullet in the leg while outside the local security headquarters. He was taken to the local hospital for treatment.
It is not known why anyone would want to kill him. There are, however, unconfirmed reports that his assailants have been captured.
On Wednesday, the mayor of Um Rizam, some 350 kilometres east of Benghazi, was shot at near a checkpoint on the way to Beida. The motive however, to have been robbery. Men dressed as guards forced him and Um Rizam’s social affairs director out of the car they were travelling in but then apparently started to squabble as to who should take the vehicle. In subsequent shooting, two of the thieves were wounded. [/restrict]
