Tripoli, 24 December 2015:
The Amazigh Supreme Council (ASC) has strongly condemned its exclusion from the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) . . .[restrict]signed on 17 December in the Moroccan city of Skhirat and backed by yesterday’s UN Security Council resolution.
In a written statement released yesterday in three languages, English, Arabic and Tamaizght, the ASC strongly attacked all national and international sides involved in the talks deliberately excluding what they considered as the formal and legitimate Amazigh representative body out of the LPA agreement.
The ASC asserted that it has been formed in accordance with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in order to protect the Amazigh community’s rights in a formal and legal way.
This gives the ASC the legal authority to represent the Amazigh people in the (Skhirat) talks, the statement said.
The ASC warned that its legitimacy and authority vested in it through its voters is a red line and a holy responsibility and that it will deter manipulators from trying to undermine the legitimate rights of Amazigh people and their full partnership in the country.
They also affirmed that it is not opposed or in support of the outcomes of the Skhirat talks or any other talks, unless it effectively takes part in them.
