In a short session yesterday, the US Senate formally confirmed the appointment of Peter Bodde as the new American ambassador to Libya. He succeeds Deborah Jones.
A career diplomat, Bode was nominated by President Obama in July. He was previously ambassador to Nepal but has also served in Baghdad where he was assistant chief of mission, as well as in Malawi, Pakistan, Germany, India, Denmark, Bulgaria and Guyana.
He is expected to take up the appointment before the end of next month and will be based in Tunis for the time being. [/restrict]
