The controversial Grand Mufti, Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani has today dismissed the UNSMIL deal as “just ink . . .[restrict]on paper” and said it should be ignored.
Instead Ghariani said that at a National Accord Conference to be held in Misrata tomorrow, called by the Elders’ Council of Libya, he expected a Libyan president to be appointed who would help the Libyan people end their political divisions.
The 172-member Elders’Council was endorsed by the president of the remaining GNC, Nouri Abu Sahmain in the summer. It is headed by Ibrahim Ben Ghashir, who is reputed to have strong ties with the Muslim Brotherhood. [/restrict]
