Tunis, 9 October 2015:
Mistatan politician Abdurrahman Sewehli is reported to have rejected the offer by UN Special Envoy . . .[restrict]to head the Libya Dialogue’s proposed State Council. He was quoted on Al-Nabaa and other TV channels last night saying he did not want the post, considered largely powerless.
Unveiling the names of the prime minister and the other members of the presidency council that is to head up Libya’s government for up to two years, Leon also named Sewehli at the head of the State Counci. It will act as Libya’s second chamber until a new constitution comes into effect.
The nomination was one of a number of latest changes to the supposedly unchangeable “final” text of the Libya Dialogue draft agreement unveiled by the Leon last week. Article 21 of the text says that “In its first meeting, the State Council shall elect its President, two deputies and a rapporteur, and shall develop its own bylaws”. [/restrict]
