Benghazi, 28 October 2015:
Colonel Mahdi Al-Barghathi, the Benghazi tank commander whose assassination was allegedly ordered by Islamist . . .[restrict]brigade leader Wissam Ben Hamid, was injured yesterday in continued fierce fighting near the city’s Garyounis district.
He sustained minor injuries to a leg but later appeared at a press conference to confirm that he was otherwise unharmed.
It is not thought that he had been deliberately targeted.
In the same fighting, it also is reported that the leader of one of the militant brigades fighting the Libya National Army was killed. He has been named as Faisal Al-Magharbi of the Tawhid Brigade.
The Salafist force is part of the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council which includes Ansar Al-Sharia.
Fighting in the area calmed this morning, although it is feared it could flare up again this evening.
Meanwhile, two bodies were discovered today by Saiqa special forces at Budizira in east Benghazi. They had been shot. One has been identified as Faraj Al-Fakhri, 43, who worked in military financial administration, the other as a civilian named Anwar Idris Al-Fassi. [/restrict]
