Tunis, 5 August 2015:
Representatives from Zintan and Zawia have held a reconciliation meeting yesterday in Mutrad on the . . .[restrict]outskirts of Zawia.
The meeting continues a trend of reconciliation meetings between the various antagonists in western Libya, with Zintan allies of Zawia’s arch-rivals Wirshefana continuing the reconciliation trend.
There has been a series of meetings at different levels between the various antagonists over the last few months in line with the UN-led peace dialogue held over the past year in Skhirat, Morocco.
At the Zawia meeting, both sides confirmed that national reconciliation was the only way to end the fighting and killing in order to support state-building and the (UN-led) dialogue.
In May, Zawia and Zintan had exchanged prisoners. On 14 July Zintan, Zawia and Rujban had struck a peace agreement for an immediate ceasefire and a pullback of fighters.
Rajban had already reached a peace deal with Zawia a month ago. [/restrict]
