Ghat, 27 July 2015:
Members of the municipal council in the south western border town of Ghat have met with . . .[restrict]Algerian police to discuss cross-border cooperation.
The meeting, which took place last week in the Algerian of Tarat, just over the border, concentrated on smuggling and illegal immigration.
Plans for joint monitoring groups were approved.
Ghat has become a major location on the illegal migrant highway between West Africa and the Libyan coast, and from there to Europe. But in reality the town has been left by the Libyan government to deal with the issue by itself. [/restrict]
