Tripoli, 9 June 2015:
Janzour municipal councillor Khairi Al-Randi and Zintan mayor Mustafa Barouni have announced collaboration moves pending the . . .[restrict]“full liberation of Janzour”.
In a statement following a visit by Randi to Zintan, the two said they would work together to provide services in those areas of Janzour municipality now under the control of the Libya National Army, these being Al-Hashan, Siyad, Najila and Zawia Al-Amura, The collaboration would continue until “the liberation of the remaining areas controlled by Dawn militias operating under the expired [General National] Congress,” the statement read.
The services would include maintenance work on roads damaged in fighting.
Janzour, in western Tripoli and the capital’s biggest suburb, had a large Warshefani population before the present conflict but many have now left and the district is currently firmly linked to Libya Dawn, in no small part because of the presence of pro-Dawn militias such as the Fursan Janzour (Janzur Knights) and the Mobil Forces. As in other towns in the west, however, there are now deep divisions in the area between those who want an end to the present fighting and reconciliation with Libyans on the other side and those who want to continue the fight until outright victory.
Randi was one of seven Janzour seven representatives elected last year.
He was subsequently accused by his fellow representatives of not supporting Libya Dawn. As far as they are concerned, he is no longer a councillor. [/restrict]
