Tripoli, 25 June 2015:
Armed robbers are reported to have attacked the Malian ambassador as he was travelling in the . . .[restrict]Syad area just west of the Tripoli suburb of Janzur today, seizing his car and possessions as well as those of his escort.
The attack is thought to be criminally rather than politically motivated but provides further proof of the growing crime wave in and around the capital.
A month ago, the Ukrainian ambassador and his escort were likewise robbed of vehicles and possessions in the same area.
Both sides in the political divide blamed the other for that incident. [/restrict]
