Libyan youth NGO, H2O, launched a peace initiative entitled ”on the playfield for peace” promoting . . .[restrict]peace and national dialogue as the only way out of Libya’s current political and military crisis.
The initiative is targeting youth by organizing three friendly five-a-side football matches between 20-25 June in Tripoli. The players will include famous ex-players, current players and some celebrities.
The initiative stresses the important role of civil society in peace building during times of conflict in spreading a culture of peace, and rejecting all existing forms of conflict within Libyan society that are negatively affecting its people.
Organizers say that by promoting the concepts of fair competition, communication between generations and unity, the football matches aim to pave the road to building peace in Libya.
The football matches will be between various groups of both young and old Libyan professional football players from all around Libya, to send the message of unity and to stress that Libya is the home for all of its citizen.
Players will be wearing shirts with the different letters that spell the word Libya – showing that Libya is formed by all.
The first match held after midnight, as it is the fasting month of Ramadan, attracted much support, as football matches usually do during the late nights and early mornings of Ramadan. [/restrict]
