Benghazi, 8 May, 2015:
Kufra was calm today after two days of inter-communal violence involving heavy mortar fire. This . . .[restrict]latest bout of violence has resulted in the deaths of four people, with many more injured.
Following Wednesday’s gunfight at the university campus involving Zwai and Tebu students, in which two Zwais were killed and four others wounded, including two women, two Tebus were shot dead yesterday and a number of others wounded. One Tebu source put the figure of injured at five.
The two died in the Tebu district of Gadarfai, killed by snipper fire, the source said.
It is now known if there have been any other Zwai deaths or injuries.
Although there has still been some occasional light shooting heard in the oasis town today, there has been no heavy gun-fire.
The change is thought to be the result of effort by elders from both communities to calm the situation, although the fact that it is Friday is also thought to have played a part. It is further suggested that now that two Tebus have been killed, Zwai anger at the two Zwai students killed on Wednesday is in some way assuaged.
Even so, members of both communities are still keeping off the streets.
Snipers are still seen in some locations. [/restrict]
