Benghazi, 26 May 2015:
With temperatures in the upper 30s and one of the worst ghiblis (sand storms) to hit . . .[restrict]Benghazi in recent years, life was brought to almost a standstill today.
People stayed indoors, shops shut and there was hardly any traffic on the streets. Nearly everything ground to a halt – including the fighting. With limited visibility, LNA planes could not operate while Ansar Al-Sharia and its allies, like the city’s ordinary residents, decided not to brave the elements.
The electricity too ground to a halt in some districts such as Hadaiq, Hay Al-Salam area and the upmarket Hay Al-Dolar, making life without air conditioning all the more unpleasant in the circumstances.
It was not just Benghazi that has been chased indoors by the ghibli today. Much of north western Cyrenaica was also affected.
Similar weather is expected tomorrow, Wednesday. [/restrict]
