Tobruk, 22 April 2015:
Ali Tikbali, the Central Tripoli member . . .[restrict]of the House of Representatives (HoR), was taken into intensive care yesterday at Tobruk Medical Centre after suffering a stroke.
A tenacious opponent of Libya Dawn and the continuing General National Congress, he and his family have been under tremendous pressure particularly back in Tripoli because of his involvement in the HoR and support for it as Libya’s democratically-elected parliament.
Last August, he was listed as a potential candidate to succeed Abdullah Al-Thinni as prime minister.
He was also earlier one of the candidates for the presidency of the HoR.
In September, the Muslim Brotherhood was accused of inciting people to murder him when an effigy of him was hanged at a demonstration in Martyrs’ Square organised by it.
He has been planned to move him to Egypt for treatment today, but this has not yet been confirmed.
UPDATE: Tikbali has been taken to Alexandria and is said to be in a stable condition. [/restrict]
