Tripoli, 27 April 2015:
Mohammed Al-Mubasher, Chairman of Libya’s Council of Elders, has announced his resignation.
Salim Madi has been . . .[restrict]asked to take his place as an interim chairman for the council until a new leader is chosen.
Mubasher had formerly announced he was stepping down last September, but then ended up staying on in his post. No reason has been given for the latest resignation.
The Council of Elders comprises Libya’s tribal leaders. It has been involved in numerous efforts at mediating peace between rival groups in the country over the last three and half years.
