Tunis, 29 April 2015:
The Beida-based Libyan government says that the five members of the Cyrenaica TV crew kidnapped last August . . .[restrict]have been murdered by the Islamic State (IS). So too have the two Tunisian journalists, Sofiane Chourabi and Nadhir Gtari, kidnapped last September.
IS claimed to have executed the Tunisians in January but the Tunisian authorities have insisted that they are still alive, suggesting they have been in contact with the abductors.
The Libya government now thinks otherwise, an Ministry of Justice official said today. Following the arrest of a Libyan and three Egyptians, reported as members of IS, he said it was now believed that all seven had been murdered and their bodies buried somewhere near Derna.
Claims that the Cyrenaica TV crew were murdered by IS surfaced earlier this week but there were then doubts about the story after their bodies remained undiscovered.
The government now says that those arrested have claimed to have been involved in killing both groups. [/restrict]
