Zliten, 24 March 2016:
Zliten residents wanting new passports say they are cannot get them because the town’s Office of Passports and Citizenship . . .[restrict]Affairs has run out of a key element in passport production.
The outer cover for the passports is currently unavailable, making it impossible to meet requests for a new passport. Further exacerbating the tensions of the crowds pressing around the office is a new requirement that residents have to present their medical records in order to receive a new passport.
Many of those waiting to obtain passports say they require them to travel to other Arab countries for medical treatment – a common occurrence at all times and something that is a necessity in these days when Libya’s health care system is suffering from shortages of supplies and personnel.
