Tripoli, 5 February 2015:
The Zawiat Al-Dahmani Cultural Centre in central Tripoli has been damaged in what some reports claim . . .[restrict]was an arson attack. The theatre has been badly burned.
Pro-Libya Dawn media, including the Tripoli-based offices of the Libyan news agency LANA which initially said the nearby Music Academy had been burned, said the overnight blaze was caused by an electrical fault.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Music Academy has received a number of threats over the presence of women not dressed in accordance with Islamic practice.
There are also unconfirmed reports of a radio station, Juwhara FM, being attacked last night, not for political reasons – all radio stations in the capital support Libya Dawn and the Hassi government – but supposedly because it played music. The reports say that the attackers damaged equipment and beat up staff.
In a separate incident, assailants last night tried to burn down the home in central Tripoli of a former policeman, with him and his family inside. They were rescued by neighbours but the assailants managed to burn the former officers’ car outside. [/restrict]
